Planning on retiring at 65? Most Americans retire far earlier — not by choice

I retired early, and it was my choice.

But I also call Australia home, and maintain private health insurance too.

I most certainly wouldn’t consider giving life up in Australia, for a life in America.

Lovely country. Have only been to Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne though. Would love to explore Perth some day.

Western Australia is the only state I haven’t visited, looking at taking the Indian Pacific train, across Australia, to WA. Sleeper car of course, it takes three days of travel, to get there.

Melbourne is the best city in Australia, to eat out in.

Also in Australia, if one is born after something like 1963, they can not claim the pension, until 67, instead of 65. What’s the aged pension worth? Around $1,000 a fortnight, for a single person. Along with free healthcare. I’ll stick with private health insurance.

I did enjoy Melbourne the most. Taking a sleeper train across Australia sounds fun!
