Biden Drug Price Controls Backfire

The only solution is for the government to take over the industry, either by drowning these companies in regulations where they would be de facto arms of the government, or by the government outlawing them and taking on R&D and manufacturing/distribution of medication.

    Which do you prefer?

    Biden Drug Price Controls Backfire

Price controls passed by President Joe Biden and Democrats aimed at reducing prescription drug prices are instead reducing available prescription drugs. A Bloomberg report says drug companies are now delaying the release of new medications in order to avoid triggering the new price controls, which mandate companies “negotiate” with Medicaid. Critics previously blasted this proposal, calling it “price fixing” that would benefit insurance companies and government entities like Medicaid while failing to actually bring down prices.

“Many groups said this is exactly what was going to happen,” says David Balat, CEO of Healthcare Finance Specialists. “Now, we’re seeing a slowdown in innovation, a slowdown in medications making it to market, and the only population this is hurting is American patients.”

I understand that sickness and death are for-profit industries in America so keeping people sick and dying is a priority. Pharma is one of the most egregious and corrupt industries in America. They should DEFINITELY be government controlled starting with caps on pricing AND profits. There should also be a non-partisan citizen-centric oversight board appointed. Playing games with Life and Death consequences that Americans have to endure with these a-holes is appalling! I don’t understand why there is not more outrage over this issue. MANY countries give their citizens free health care and free education…..oh wait, I forgot…this is AMERRRIKKA…only money matters…..nevermind. I wonder how you outlaw greed and corruption…VOTE!!

So if they are government controlled, i.e. the government is controlling the means of production, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and the rest will simply be new government agencies. Are you OK with that?

Hey ObsureandFuzzy. You responded to my post: So if they are government controlled, i.e. the government is controlling the means of production, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and the rest will simply be new government agencies. Are you OK with that?

I am absolutely ok with that IF the right measures and oversight of the governments management is regulated and managed equitably and fairly (good luck with that, I know) Create a non-partisan citizen board that would act in an oversight capacity with subpoena authority and with a broad mandate to act solely in the public interest. I also think we need a National Helathcare System like many European countries have and work very well. I know because I have lived in Europe.

Healthcare is a right, NOT a privilege. VOTE!!

Why not eliminate the “middle man” and just make drug companies appendages of the Federal government under your plan? Your proposal is essentially just that.

Why go through the pretense that these are private companies anymore though? Just absorb them into the Federal government. Would be much more efficient.

One very important reason the European countries can afford to have government healthcare for their citizens is that the USA is picking up the tab for their defense. The USA spends 3/4 of a TRILLION on defense a year. Germany spends 52 billion euro, France spends 47 billion euro. If the USA shrunk its military so that it could not defend Europe, you’d see those EU countries faced with a choice: Drastically expand spending on their military (and cut government healthcare) OR prepare to become part of the new Soviet Union.

And because healthcare is a right, it should be funded by the government?
