We got married to "When Ragtime Rosie Ragged the Rosary" (for real!) played live by a great ragtime jazz hand, Kerry Price & Mother's Boys.

O Parson Lee in Tennessee
In accents loud and clear
Said "Folks, I'm awful sorry
But our organ man ain't here.
Now I'd like someone to
stand up and volunteer."

There came a shout!

When Ragtime Rosie Ragged the Rosary
(Well Deacon Alexander started in to reprimand her)
But he turned around and he could see
That instead of prayin' Rosie got the folks a-swayin'

That tune so sweet
Was oh! such a treat
It charmed their feet and got 'em
Dancin' and prancin'
The ragtime two-step
Till Parson Lee (why, he forgot his sermon and began to talk in German)
Listenin' to that low-down melody
Then he
Said "I want you folks to know
That this ain't no minstrel show!"

When Ragtime Rosie Ragged the Rosary!

For the opening dance, I'd want a live, scaled-back rendition of the Walz No. 2 movement from Dmitri Shostakovich's 1934 "Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 1". It was featured as the opening and closing title theme to Stanley Kubrick's 1999 film, Eyes Wide Shut.

The next Mr. Right must waltz, or be willing to learn -– non-negotiable.

"Cheek to Cheek" by Irving Berlin:

Heaven, I’m in heaven
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we’re out together dancing cheek to cheek
Heaven, I’m in heaven
And the cares that hung around me through the week
Seem to vanish like a gambler’s lucky streak
When we’re out together dancing (swinging) cheek to cheek
Oh I love to climb a mountain
And reach the highest peak
But it doesn’t thrill (boot) me half as much
As dancing cheek to cheek
Oh I love to go out fishing
In a river or a creek
But I don’t enjoy it half as much
As dancing cheek to cheek
(come on and) dance with me
I want my arm(s) about you
That (those) charm(s) about you
Will carry me through...
(right up) to heaven, I’m in heaven
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we’re out together dancing, out together dancing (swinging)
Out together dancing cheek to cheek

I want my friend, Dr. Diva, to sing it. She's one of the best Jazz and Blues singers around: http://www.drdiva.biz/. If she can't do it, then I'll have to use Ella's & Louis Armstrong's version.

Now I just have to figure out who I can trick into marrying me and doesn't mind me planning everything!

I wouldn't laugh at that. My partner, and I were in a gay bar one night, and it just happened to be karaoke night. I was not performing, but someone sang Amazed and I sang along to my partner.

When we tied the knot at our Country and Western themed party last year we wanted our first song to be, 'Islands in the Stream' by Dolly and Kenny.

However our incompetant DJ played 'Jolene' instead, which was completely wrong, but kinda funny.

It doesn't really matter as long as you're dancing with the man you love in front of your family and friends.

We had originally planned that 'Our Song' would be a Josh Groban song... But we have a couple of friends who are extremely good - well known professional - singer/actors. They sort of took over the stage... Lots of Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Show Tunes, and some Pop standards.

One did a fantastic version of 'Hero'.

My favorite was a friend who sang "A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square" (R Stewart)

Another friend - a jazz vocalist - brought his jazz band and did a super set for most of the evening.

Memorable.

was humming Some Enchanted Evening on the way back from the first camping trip that I and my boyfriend made together, just seemed appropriate...

as for a wedding...love the lyrics of John Denvers, Annie's Song...."you fill up my senses...."

also love the song, don't know it's name, by Savage Garden, with the chorus lyrics:
I want to stand with you on the mountain,
I want to bathe with you in the sea,
I want to lay/live like this forever,
Until the sky falls down on me.....

but as noted earlier, the song really doesnt matter all that much, if you are dancing in the strong arms of the man you love...

perhaps, some day....

first, congrats

second, I agree, I would have a micheal buble song for sure; "Everything", or if I wanted a laugh, "It had better be tonight"

I just love his voice, "Home" made me burst into tears last year when I was at med school...

I would love to swing dance at my wedding to this:

"This I Promise You"

Ohh ohh...

When the visions around you,
Bring tears to your eyes
And all that surround you,
Are secrets and lies
I'll be your strength,
I'll give you hope,
Keeping your faith when it's gone
The one you should call,
Was standing here all along..

And I will take
You in my arms
And hold you right where you belong
Till the day my life is through
This I promise you
This I promise you

I've loved you forever,
In lifetimes before
And I promise you never...
Will you hurt anymore
I give you my word
I give you my heart (give you my heart)
This is a battle we've won
And with this vow,
Forever has now begun...

Just close your eyes (close your eyes)
Each loving day (each loving day)
I know this feeling won't go away (no..)
Till the day my life is through
This I promise you..
This I promise you..

Over and over I fall (over and over I fall)
When I hear you call
Without you in my life baby
I just wouldn't be living at all...

And I will take (I will take you in my arms)
You in my arms
And hold you right where you belong (right where you belong)
Till the day my life is through
This I promise you baby

Just close your eyes
Each loving day (each loving day)
I know this feeling won't go away (no..)
Every word I say is true
This I promise you

Every word I say is true
This I promise you
Ooh, I promise you...

That song brings back memories. I was in Germany (middle school) when I first heard that song!

I'm not sure what song I would want to dance to if I was to get married. Perhaps, don't laugh, an Enya song. I've always loved her stuff.

although in private it would be "Statues" by the Foo Fighters. Something about that song is very compelling. Not really upbeat, but it's about people who find love after time and hurt, which is how I think it ends up happening for a lot of gay men my age.

Well here comes the sappy romantic in me. Without a doubt the following song would capture everything I couldn't think of to say but would want to at that moment....

I Want To Spend My Lifetime Loving You - Marc Anthony & Tina Arena

Moon so bright night so fine
Keep your heart here with mine
Life's a dream we are dreaming
Race the moon catch the wind
Ride the night to the end
Seize the day stand up for the light
I want to spend my lifetime loving you
If that is all in life I ever do
Heroes rise heroes fall
Rise again, win it all
In your heart, can't you feel the glory
Through our joy, through our pain
We can move worlds again
Take my hand, dance with me
I want to spend my lifetime loving you
If that is all in life I ever do
I will want nothing else to see me through
If I can spend my lifetime loving you
Though we know we will never come again
Where there is love, life begins
Over and over again
Save the night, save the day
Save the love, come what may
Love is worth everything we pay
I want to spend my lifetime loving you
If that is all in life I ever do
I want to spend my lifetime loving you
If that is all in life I ever do
I will want nothing else to see me through
If I can spend my lifetime loving you.

It was a feelin
Id never known
And for the first time
I didnt feel alone

Youre more than a lover
There could never be another
To make me feel the way you do
Oh we just get closer
I fall in love all over
Everytime I look at you
I dont know where Id be
Without you here with me
Life with you makes perfect sense
Youre my best friend
Youre my best friend, oh yeah

You stand by me
And you believe in me
Like nobody ever has
When my world goes crazy
Youre right there to save me
You make me see how much I have
And I still tremble
When we touch
And oh the look in your eyes
When we make love

Youre more than a lover
There could never be another
To make me feel the way you do
Oh we just get closer
I fall in love all over
Everytime I look at you
And I dont know where Id be
Without you here with me
Life with you makes perfect sense
Youre my best friend
Youre my best friend

Youre more than a lover
There could never be another
To make me feel the way you do
Oh we just get closer
I fall in love all over
Everytime I look at you
And I dont know where Id be
Without you here with me
Life with you makes perfect sense
Youre my best friend
Youre my best friend (my best friend)
Youre my best friend (my best friend)

If you've ever seen the movie Trick, it's the song that plays at the end during the credits

Trick of Fate

This would be Ode to my wedding, to my husband and of course to Olivia, cuz she's one cool gal.

I'd have it all choreographed the same. Can't wait!

I'd play this!

You see, my friends, it all depends on the mood I'm in.

"When I was a lad" From HMS Pinafore.

Just kidding.

I would choose a waltz or rumba song for the first dance. Maybe a tango for the second and then whatever gets people moving.

Not sure if it's really dancable, then again for me nothing really is, but I've always loved the lyrics to "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys.

Probably "My Heat Will Go On" by Celine Dion, not because we love it, but seeing the movie was "Titanic" was our first date.

Another possibility is "Unchained Melody" by The Righteous Brothers. We both love that song.
