Nipple sore

Hi runners.

Sometime ago I had a bad nipple sore after running. I believe it was caused because my shirts were too loose. I started using tighter shirts and the problem stopped.

Unfortunately it started again, to the extent of bleeding a bit, and it is becoming painful. I think it might be related to the low temperatures during my early morning runs. Is this possible? I am applying a thick lanolin-cream, but does not seem to work well.

How do you cope with this?

Thanks a lot

I saw one in Runner's Magazine some nipple protectors - basically, round band-aids, try that?

Yep stretch fabric, non-latex type band-aids work fine, and the running stores here in Austin sell nipple protectors as well.

Isn't it worse to stick a band-aid? In fact, it should be worse to remove it after running!

Sometimes the problem is if there is any heavy print on the shirt or a stitching from a patch.

Don't wear nip clamps to bed.

If you're running with a loose shirt, put vaseline petroluem jelly on your nipples to protect them from the friction that causes pain. When it gets colder, my running gear is skin-tight so I have no trouble. I think this will solve your problem.

Dakuk, definitively I will try those!

I am wearing tight shirts and jackets, so there is no friction (so i think) and the pain still there. Furthermore, I am wearing a cream prescribed to nursing mothers (believe me, they know what a nipple sore is) and no results.

Thanks guys!

There's a product called bodyglide which is similar to a deotarant consistency and you place it anywhere where you may get chafing. It kind of puts a layer between you and your skin. Maybe that would help. I use it during my races.

For you runners out there with this problem
Try Bodyglide.... it looks like a deodorant container but has this stuff that prevents chaffing of the nipples.. it costs about $9.99 and you don't have to change wardrobe.

Yohangomez this should help. I hope.

I use the little cicular band-aids and they work well ... and you don't pull all your chest hair out.

Nike Pro or Under Armour skin tight shirts seem to work for me. No more nipple bleedings during 20+ mile runs. I do use Bodyglide for loose body parts down south.

Nike Pro are the best shirts for running. I have used them for the last few years. They keep you cool, relatively dry, and cling to the chest nicely to prevent the friction against the nipples. It feels like you're not wearing a shirt, in fact.
