BLACK FRIDAY EXPERIENCES: Did You Get Any Good Bargains?

Black Friday....

When I told a friend I was venturing to the mall he responded, "I'll pray for you".... A little over the top, but I decided to go in, which I don't normally do on this day after Thanksgiving. It was Dillards and their 50% off the sale price. What I found was pretty fascinating. 50% off all ties in the store. I bought 2 more Ralph Lauren polos which I don't need for $18.75 apiece and
bought several other shirts as gifts (some which were not 50% off the sale price, but the clerk changed it anyway so I got the savings.)

Getting in and out was a little challenging. Did you go?

No Black Friday shopping here, but I read this awful bit of shopping gone wild:

Worker dies at Long Island Wal-Mart after being trampled in Black Friday stampede
A Wal-Mart worker died after being trampled when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island store Friday morning, police and witnesses said.

The 34-year-old employee, a temporary maintenance worker, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.

Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.

Toys R Us had some great sales but the lines were long. We got a few things for our niece.
Apparently our Aunt ventured all the way down to Scottsdale at 6am, got us some luggage from Burberry

The crowds and traffic are absolutely ridiculous. Now I got to work and can rest here the rest of the day.

No shopping for me, but I have spent half the day with Breaking News airing on the TV - A murder suicide at the local Toys-R-Us. What is wrong with people?

I saved a lot of money at Target. I bought dvd's. Most were $6. Than went over to Linens N Things and got a comforter set. There going out of business so everything was on sale.

This is insane. American retailing is out-of control. There is no reason for any store to be opening at 5am and certainly no reason for anyone to hurt, much less killed in the process.

I boycott doing shopping on Black Friday because I will not encourage the kind of insanity we saw today. I would add that saving $25, even $50 is not worth dealing with the crowds of nasty, aggressive people.

I'll order what I want online thank-you.

I had to work at Barnes and Noble. Sloooow day! Be careful with Dilliard's. AOL reports that they are near the top of the list of companies not to see 2009. Do not buy gift cards, if I were you.
Oh, be careful of the shopping bitches from hell.. Rude and crude.

My first NY Black Friday Experience:

1. Wake up at 8am, scratch head and wonder why I am bothering today.
2. Out the door by 9 - at ROOSEVELT FIELD and parked by 9:45. (light morning traffic)
3. Shopping - Express for men had fantastic deals which my boyfriend will like - as well as Nordstrom, Marc Ecko, and Kiehls (the last was for me - I had to get myself something LOL) - All of which was under 200. I did almost knock over an old lady though - she was moving very slowly and I kind of hit one of those store displays that they put outside of stores. It was pretty funny and she let me by after blocking me for 10 minutes.
4. In the car and out of the mall by 12:45
5. Home by 1:30.

I count this as a win because my Christmas shopping is virtually done - my family is just getting together for the holiday and I will be spending my first holiday with my BF - stoked.

First time in 15 years that I stayed home. I decided last year that I would rather pay $50 more for something than wait in those lines again. So, I stayed home, drank some coffee, ate some oatmeal and went to the gym instead.

I hit the Nike outlet:
$55 Nike Pro Thermal 1/2 zip for $20
$55 Pro Thermal mock t-neck for $20
$55 Dri-fit Winter Running mock t-neck for $16
$70 Nike Thermal Reflective running Hoodie (built-in hand warmers) $20
$20-$25 dri-fit hats for $9 each.

Lots of people at the outlet mall – however, not too many loaded down with packages

Went to the gym, had a massage. Going to the grocery store, and then a party.

No malls in my future this weekend.

I got a great deal on a Bally (Swiss Leather Designer) messenger bag that NEVER goes on sale.

It seems that even the luxury goods vendors are feeling the pinch and are having sales on things that never get reduced.

40% off!!! And this was 1 day before thanksgiving!! Wooo.

Dillard's? Damnit!!! I love Dillard's! They have the best cashmere. Well, I guess living in the desert I wont need them now. But it would still be nice! GRRRRRRRRR!

Target was nice and empty of crowds tonight. Myself and a few others had plenty of space to check out decorations (I bought a wreath for my front door).

ooooo dont get me started. im done with this..theres a story behind it.

me and my friends have consistantly participated in black friday (5am doorbusters, standing in line in the freezing weather...the whole 9 yards). this morning was the 6th annual for us.

well, back 6 years ago, when i was 15, i had a job and made money. duh lol. so my black friday trips were sweet the first couple of years. i got my family and friends real good stuff. i would scout out the ads and be in line and fight to the death.

well 2 years ago, things started going downhill. i make more money now, but apparently Jeep still wants their car payment, and the bank still wants their credit card payment, even though they KNOW that black friday is ehre. point is, i got no money! but still, we keep going. this morning was miserable. i stood in line at best buy and ended up only getting 2 blue ray movies. what a waste of my friday morning. im pissed.

but i did notice that this year, there were very few HOT HOT HOT deals. i got a top of the line samsung 50-inch plasma TV in october for my room, and i paid $1599 on some random thursday evening. well for black friday today my TV was on "sale" for $1749.....

anyone else notice the lack of the deals?

oh, and anyone have some money they dont need?

I go back and forth on this plasma tv deal or lack of....I noticed this price, but for some reason I had a hard time going to wal mart to buy it. I am not sure if it's worth the hassel and all the crowds. So I stayed home...I see a better one at best buy and even at cost co...what's 500 more...for less crowds and better quality!!
