There aren't that many personalities on the tour that make the game worth watching. It's great watching Tiger do the amazing leads and the great comebacks from behind to Win a tournament.
We've had the Nicklaus' and the Norman's of the golf world who have brought attention to the game, but the average Joe couldn't name someone else past Tiger now. You could argue for Phil Mickelson, Ernie Else and other golfer's but they haven't had the same energy charisma, and consistency as Tiger.
Now that the season is in full swing, one of golf's best assessts is missing due to an injury... so is golf worth watching now? Why or why not?
While there have clearly been two levels of golf since Tiger entered the pro-level game...those with Tiger and those without, even the ones without him often produce quite a bit of drama. I think we've got a great chance for some of the lesser known and younger generation of players to emerge and gain some confidence while Tiger's on the mend. I would speculate hopefuly that when he comes back, we're going to have some great battles with those newly emerged and confident players. I think that type of competition can only be good for Tiger and for the Tour and for golf itself. Will I watch. Sure.
Though the sport will lose some fan support and ratings while he is out, golf is still golf. The true golf fan will still watch it, though it is without one of the greatest, if not the greatest, player of all time. This will give the others a chance to see how the compare to the rest of the field minus Tiger. Enjoy what Tiger brings to the game but also enjoy what the game brings to those who play.
