I'd really like to get a sleeve type tattoo on my upper arm, no lower than a short sleeved shirt, but I worry that I'll have to have a lypoma removed and end up ruining it.

I see this guy everyday. He lives near where I work. Everyday he is out there with tattoos all over his arms, up his neck and crawling onto his face. He has ear plugs so big you want to set them on fire and jump circus animals through them. And there he goes, looking miserable and pushing a baby carriage. That badass rebel is now spending his days changing diapers and singing Raffi.
He is a walking advertisement for contraceptives.

He is a walking advertisement for contraceptives. You can change that description in any number of ways, from suburban yuppi wanna be, to ghetto hood rat, to MIT D&D reject... it's not the tattoos and piercings, it's OTHER life decisions that are making him miserable. True i wouldnt get tattoos on my face, but i do have them on the back of my neck, the back of my head, and up and down both arms and legs... i work a very good job in local government, a great part time job with Lifetime Fitness, I still strip (though tattoos wouldnt be considered something that could hinder that), and i manage to dance and choreograph for a contemporary company. Tattoos aren't the mark of a bad person or a derelict no matter WHAT the tattoos are... It's like the saying "guns dont kill people, people kill people"... tattoos a bad person do not make.

I am about to get a tat over my shoulder, then down the side of delt and pec. I think tattoos and piercings are HOT, provided they are not visible in business dress. A tat says to me that guy can handle, possibly even enjoy, a little pain ;) BTW... back to the original question... Just as the hanky code was once symbolic for gay men... a tattoo on the left or right arm can still be an indicator of whether one is top or bottom. Given that, I'm going to have a tough time deciding which side to put my tat on

I just got my first tattoo last month - at age 32! lol
it took me 10 yrs from the time i thought about what i wanted untill when i finally got it. i ended up getting what i wanted but i like it even more than i thought i would. my best friend drew it for me from what i said i wanted it too look like.
the only thing that sucks is that i can never really see it because its on my back and sometimes i forget that its there - until i go to the gym and some dude in the locker room says "that's fucking awesome man"
*btw - never heard about the top/bttm thing on the arms. which arm is top and which arm is bottom? is this really true?*

HA HA HA HA Really? I Never heard that about tattoos. Nipple piercing yes, but not tattoos. And though i think getting ink is painful, i dont think that it means the guy, or girl, can tolerate, or even enjoy, a little pain. I feel that getting ink is the ultimate expression of a person's decision to truly hold ownership of their flesh.

Tattoos are a form of art and quite frankly there is nothing wrong with them. It's a nice way for a person to express themself be it in public view or one place where only they can see it.
As far as I know having a tattoo placed on a particular part of the body has no meaning unless the person themself what's to give it a meaning so I'm gonna have to raise the flag on the "arm tat location" suggesting whether or no a personis a top or bottom. if that's the case then alot of people with tats are misleading and apparently unaware of this tat rule. LOL.
What's the gay code for guys with tats on their belly buttons?

ok - so the tats on the arms signifying if you're a top or bttm is not true...
...is the nipple piercing true? which side means what? never heard of this...
AND if a guy has a tattoo over his ass (which I've heard is called either a "Tramp Stamp" or "Mark of the Whore" - no offense to anyone - I assume he's a bottom... am I right or wrong?

LOL. The "Tramp Stamp" is usually located right above the ass crack in the center and when seen on guys it has no meaning or any significance whatsoever in dictating whether they are tops are bottoms. Even when seen ongirls it still has no meaning.
The nipple ring is also a farce. However, back in the day the ear piercing was more of a gay thing if it was in the right ear. It signified you might be gay or at least a rebel against the norm since most people got pierced in the right ear.

tattoos on your arms depending on which arm you get it on is a code for top or bottom , not true at all. the Tramp Stamp on the lower back applies to females.

I got my first tattoo at age 37 back in May of this year. It was sort of like a birthday present to myself. I've been thinking of doing it for years. I did a special type of cross that has a lot of significance to me on my lower left leg. I was nervous only because I wanted to make sure whatever I put on myself that I was happy with. After all, it's going to be there forever. And then....the pain! I didn't even think about how much it was going to hurt. Yikes! But I got over it. I'm going to see the same artist in the future. I think there's something so special about her. By the way, from what I've seen in terms of portfolios, women seem to make better tattoo artists. At least from the work that I've seen in Chicago. Now I'm a bit hooked. I know I'd like to put some sort of arm band on either arm. And maybe over the lateral delt area. I'm actually so fascinated by it all that I'm going to ask my tattoo artist what it takes to become one. I could get into being a part time tattoo artist in the future. I like tattoos that have a story behind them. A lot of tribal and Knot work don't do it for me. Most of the time they're just generic vapid artwork. My tattoo that I have thus far represents an ancient pilgrimage that I completed in Spain. The cross that I have on my leg is one of the recognized symbols of the pilgrimage. It was painfully arduous and I didn't think I was going to finish it. It's 500 miles long!! I put the tattoo on my leg (these legs that carried me across the entire country of Spain) to remind myself that I'm not a quitter. And quite frankly, it looks so damn cool too.

I got my first and so far only tattoo for my 21st birthday, its my zodiac sign on my right hip. i have gotten a few compliments on it. I knew i wanted it for a long time before i got it. for me tattoos are hot but i personally feel its time to stop when you just get a tattoo for the hell of it without really knowing what you want or it having a significance to you. I think placement of the ink has an effect on how good it looks as well i like the hips and upper back, not a fan of the neck and face(face is just scary). As far as tattoos on the arm i dont think they have any general meaning other than what the person who has them says they mean.

From what I've heard the hip is one of the more painful spots for a tattoo.
I have one, of Gambit from X-Men, on my right shoulder. The placement doesn't really have any meaning, other then it was the only place I could think to get it done, and it doesn't show when I have a shirt on.
My next one is pry going to be the Nintendo raceway logo on my left pec, and then I want to get Iceman and Angel form X-Men on my right shoulder.

I religiously watched the cartoon growing up. Since I was always involved in sports I would have to tape the episodes so that I could watch it when my games were over for the day
Me personally: I'm a big fan of Storm (she was hot too me...lol...brown skin and blue eyes), Magneto (so smooth), and of course Wolverine!
I never got big into the X-men comics

I must admit the first thing I associate tattoos with is prison inmates. I am sure the percentage of male inmates with tattoos is over 90%.
Tattoos on some people look attractive as long as they are tastefully done and not too big. Nothing more unattractive then a large tattoo on sagging and wrinkled flesh.

I LOVE tattoos, I got mine on december after around 4 years of thinking and sketching and i absolutely love it. For me it's all about the place you put the tattoo, it's so important that it "flows" with your body so that it doesn't look just like a sticker, it's more interesting if it becomes a part of your body.

I currently have 6 tattoo's in total.
The one on my right leg is a dragon, wich I got for strength of spirit. I will eventually have a tiger on the other side on the right leg to symbolize strength of body as well.
My right arm has 2 differnt symbols for Phoenix. one is an actual picture and one if a representation. I would like to have that entire arm done up with multiple depictions of symbols for rebirth.
My left forarm has a simple tribal design with flames incorperated into it. no real meaning behind that one lol. Just liked the design and I love fire.
Left leg has a character from a videogame on it...and NO it is NOT a pokemon! lol. It is a character from Final Fantasy 8. I am a gamer, and I choose to show that with a tattoo.

I got mine when I was weaning myself off of some substances I would rather not divulge. Suffice to say, my tat became a reminder and to me, they both symbolize rebirth.
