Protein Shakes That Don't Taste Like Choco-Barf

Ok, so I had a great workout today and I was really in the mood for a healthy shake for dinner (after having had my one dietary cheat of the week for lunch) and I got a Myoplex Protein shake.

And I felt like I was drinking choco-barf.

Is there a good protein shake (that you can buy pre-made) that I should be having? I like all flavours, I just don't want it to taste like I'm drinking something with the viscosity of oil and the taste of vomited Swiss chocolate.

Help!

As far as protein powders go, the one I've tried where I most enjoy the taste is the banana cream from GNC. It's probably more expensive than it needs to be, so I should look into other brands. But you do have to mix it yourself. I've not found a premixed one yet which tasted reasonable to me.

"Choco-barf"

That is my new Phrase-of-the-Month!

As for protein shakes, I agree with GobB, MuscleMilk was the least barfous of the lot, I thought (nanner, and mocha were the two I liked).

I finally just mostly dropped supplemental proteins tho. Bleech.

Musashi is awesome. Comes in Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry. I could drink it all day, but it makes me fart like bastard!

Mmm. This sounds interesting. And possibly quite good.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys!

I'm kind of a finicky eater when it comes to vegetables...don't really like them, so I rarely eat them...so I discovered a protein drink that has all the nutrients of eating your daily suggested amount of veggies, but I don't have to actually put the mushy stuff in my mouth. I mix it with orange juice and a frozen banana.

I make a protein shake after work outs. It's simple and quick. Here's my recipe:

Fresh fruit - usually a banana or peach
Frozen fruit - often strawberries, along with blueberries for the anti-oxidants
Oatmeal - preferably the non-quick kind
Yogurt - usually plain and low fat to keep the sugar content low and to avoid high fructose corn syrup
Juice - usually grapefruit
Protein Powder - again, usually plain whey to keep the sugar content low

I use various combinations of fruits to keep it interesting. And it's cheaper and better tasting than a lot of the packaged post-workout drinks.

I buy pure whey protein isolate in bulk from trueprotein.com and add my own flavoring, coconut milk, pure maple syrup, and water. For fruit flavors, I use fruit juice concentrate. For chocolate, I use a heaping teaspoon of Scharffen Berger cocoa powder and a teaspoon of instant coffee.

premixed muscle milk is at the top of my list flavor-wise. chocolate, chocolate mint and chocolate malt are my favorites...hmm, there's a bit of a theme there. if i have time to make a shake at home, i use the chocolate muscle milk powder, add a banana, a couple of tablespoons of sugar free peanut butter and some ice. now THAT is a treat!!

Well, I have to mix it myself. But, "BSN Syntha-6" in chocolate flavor is my favorite. Use soy milk instead of water and it tastes exactly like a chocolate milk shake. I actually look forward to my protein shake sometimes.

The LaBrada "Lean Body" line is not bad at all... I'd recommend the Vanilla ice-cream flavor shake, chocolate ice cream is ok... about 1/2 the fat of Muscle milk.

Optimum Nutrition's Pro Complex Vanilla is actually very good tasting and its an excellent blend of fast and slow digesting proteins with a great amino acid profile. Not only that but it is very low in carbs and fat. Incidentally, it is one of the most recommended brands on the market and I can personally say the flavor is excellent and it dissolves easily in a shaker.

i've enjoyed the taste of goat's whey protein. But i think you're going to get some sort of lab/chemical taste from any pre-mixed protein, so it's a matter of finding the least offensive one.

I've been intrigued by muscle milk, but shocked by the fat content, so i haven't had nay yet.

A mix of soy protein and honey ,bit vanilla very tasty, very good for jumpstarting your metabolism as well, no fat.

Mixing your own shake including fat kinda defeats the purpose afaik its best to avoid fat at all costs after working out...

I totally go for Musclemilk. My favorite flavor is Mocha Joe, though it has caffeine. I also love Banana, Vanilla Cream and Chocolate. They're very creamy.

They hardly taste barf at all.

I've never had them make me feel like vomiting, though they do leave kind of a faint sweet taste in my mouth for a few hours afterward. Not unpleasant, but a little wierd.

If I confess that I read this thread to take note of new variants of the word "barf", does that make me immature?

Don't answer that.
