Is change a'coming in the male fashion model?

The men's shows are under way in Milan, and we've already seen some pretty memorable things so far (man dresses by Prada, anyone?). But we might never forget this model in the Vivienne Westwood show. Most male models have baby-soft skin and do for a pair of skinny pants what Gisele Bündchen does for a bikini. But this guy? Well, after seasons of skinny emo boys, Viv has given us something interesting to look at. And it's, well … fabulous! We don't know who he is, but we intend to find out, dammit. - New York Magazine

Can anyone say publicity stunt....

Seriously though I take one look at that picture and can imaghine him on a street corner slapping a women across the face and saying

"Your my Ho don't let me catch you holding out on me again Bitch"

Seriously though he looks like a pimp and I've lost all respect for Vivienne Westwood.

and I like stocky guys but without the greasy hair, untrimmed beard, and complete with bling and a sweatsuit

It was some social message about "tolerance" that made vivienne westwood do this whole gypsy theme. The board in milan wasn't too impressed though. not to sure what the whole story as I just read a quick blurb online.

The stuff i've seen being shown in milan for spring 2009 is still full of the androgynous skinny emo boys though. Mostly depends on the designer. Dolce and Gabbana used some nice buff models for their collection.

actually found the URL to a story about it... don't know how to make clickable links though so don't hate me!

Guy looks good. Not necessarily the outfit, but I don't really understand high fashion so I'm no judge. Could be worse:

I actually don't find him unattractive.

That getup is, however, totally frightening. The pic on the right looks like a Hefty Bag Jumpsuit. Then again, I've often wondered if they put something in the water coolers in some of those agencies.

I'm gonna be the odd guy and say he's got a definate sex appeal to him. That whole beefy "I could give a shit," Brando-esque vibe is working. I mean, come on, the guys has more sexual heat than most of those skeletons (i.e. male models today) in Milan. Hm.

Well, I think Vivienne Westwood is an amazing designer with a hugely creative commercial streak.

And she has got people talking about her clothes which is something she wouldn't have achieved if she'd used the usual boring A&F models.

I want those sandals.

Pukeroo, but it's provocative. I think the Galliano freak shows were a little more exciting, but this is a slightly safe take on the same idea, and it hasn;t been done to death

to be fair, i think westwood is known for using unconventional models so it's not that odd that he showed up in the show. either way though i think he's pretty sexy. call me crazy, but i'd do more than kiss him

Well, he isn't overweight. He's proportional. Hair in all the right places. Might be packing. Etc. The clothes I could skip.

It'd be interesting if she'd chosen a model with this build who had a better face. I don't find this guy attractive, but with a better face I wonder if the overall reaction from the press, etc., would have shifted.

I rather enjoyed the models at the D-Squared show. Yummy!

All these pictures are getting me prepped for gay pride Sunday in Toronto where many of the gay men that walk around the streets with virtually nothing on are well "challenged" in the physique department to put it charitably.

There was one guy I saw last year who had NOTHING ON and had a penis that looked deformed it was so big. If my sex drive can survive that exposure then I am good for the next 30 years at least.

You can have some fat and still not be overweight. If he went to the Doctor, I doubt he'd get lectured about how his weight is a concern.

As for the clothes... the boxers are a poor fit - too clingy. They hang oddly in both pics. The pants are opposite - too baggy. The crotch looks like a mass of leather folds - like leather sweat pants. I think the butterfly belt buckle was also a poor choice; maybe a polished obsidian oval or triangle.

Definitely ixnay on the gross teeth. A nicely done gold grill maybe to compliment the bling, but not the James Bond JAWS look. Ugh.

Along the lines of 'not your standard model' - I'd love to see Project Runway do a challenge with big fat models. Not because I want to see fat people, I just want to see them dressed better. You can have models that look like barrels, liberty bells, or like they swallowed a tire. Let's see some real fashion genius. Can you make someone not-so-attractive look good?

Project Runway is also free to have a season entirely devoted to dressing male models as well.

I was afraid of this. A few years ago at a beach in Florida I saw a really obese guy with fur all over and a thong on. I thought, and hoped he was just an abberation, a Mammoth in a rubber band. Obviously he was the trend setter.
