Austin Texas, Gay Pride, Gold's Gym...Oh My!

My Gay Pride was full of surprises!! I wore my classic 90's attire of Levi cut-offs, white tank top, and SWAT boots. My rainbow umbrella-ella-ella was the icing on the cake. I stayed for the fair all fucking day - keeping cool under my practical parasol while making new friends. I met atxclimber at his booth (Dayum!!) and signed up for volunteer work. Later, the Bears invited me to the float, but it was too crowded and not much room for me.

The HRC folks were in major need of volunteers, so they asked if I could help them carry the big walking logo. A straight girl was also asked and it was her first gay anything. She was just a jogger passing by. We both helped out. At the back of the banner, I waved my colorful umbrella and the crowd cheered on.

For the first time I felt like a celebrity from all the flashing cameras...I still have yet to find those photos and see them... LOL!!

It's my first official week in Austin. So much has happened, I'm still in a daze just trying to sort out the fast-paced environment I am now in.

I went to this super extended jogging trail in the heart of downtown. The paths cut and curve through small bridges, creeks, and ravines. It was the ultimate experience - I have never seen soo many joggers at one time!! Then I went hiking - I don't know where it was, but I recall seeing cedar posts that zig-zag to prevent mountain bikers from entering the walk zones. Hiking trails are an obvious cruise site - I saw plenty of used condoms tossed about....

Monday's membership tour of Gold's gym was suddenly turned into a job interview. Mark, the Sales Manager, felt that I would be a good candidate for the team and hired me on the spot. What normally would have taken three weeks to complete, the three day application process was quite exhausting yet VERY rewarding.

Wow!

The Gold's Gym located at Lakeline Mall is like the MECCA of hot guys, both members and employees. It will take time to accommodate sexy, beautiful people in my life - major overload, but I'll be ok.

I still have not met any Austin RJayers. But, I have been meeting other really cute guys not affilated with the site. The locals seem to be very helpful. There are times when I feel like I have "New Guy" aggressively written on my forehead and everyone knows it. Once I get used to the bus system, I'm sure to venture into the downtown area more frequently.

I'll most likely spend my Sundays at Gold's there.

Later, dudes!

-James

Yes, yes Californians: why don't all of you move here in droves and drive up the value of our property.

Seriously, though... there aren't a lot of actual gayborhoods here. That said, we seem to be trying to build one in our hood.

Actually part of the appeal to me about Austin is that there is no Gayborhood!

I totally agree. I think living in a full-on gay ghetto would drive me insane. Seriously, how many cute little antique shops does a person need?

Austin seems to be pretty darn accepting. Everyone is more or less welcome everywhere. I think that's actually why the gay bars and Pride are kinda...meh.

Welcome!!! There is no gayborhood, but move into a hood and instant gayborhood. I think Hobronto and I come pretty close to one. And Jadamo knows where I live now, since he tried to stalk me and use my wireless. You will have fun here, plue this city is gonna be sooo dofferent in a few years, it will be exciting to see it all go down.

I LOVE AUSTIN!!!!!!! Though I've never been there, I did just subscribe to chaosmen.com (which is also called Chaos in Austin for some reason) and WHEW! It's hot!

Any town that can produce such excellent porn is aces in my book (shout out to San Diego!).

My ex-boyfriend and his new partner live in Austin. They seem so happy together there and it makes me glad. (Really! I'm happy my ex stopped dating losers!)

Anyway ... I think they go to your Gold's Gym, so if you see a beefy, shorter guy w/ dark hair and goatee and a bit shy (w/ an ass to die for!) ...

Photobucket

that's Mark.

Yeah, I was gonna say... we're pretty damn close. All this modern architecture - it's like catnip for gay folks.

Welcome to Austin.

Sorry I could not be there for the RJ Austin Meet ups.

I am just very exhausted these days. Exhaustion usually translates to hibernation and dreading/avoiding social engagements.

When I emerge from my neuroses I am sure I will meet you at one of the get togethers...

Hope you have a cool summer in the meantime :-)

Today on the bus ride home, a skinny white guy handed me a flier to his DJ bash tonight. Then he pulled out his compact and added more eye shadow. Then a fat crazy lady was talking about little green stupid people and how they bother her in the mornings....

It's raining out, so I'll just stay home.

I met my neighrbor across from me. He seems nice...which makes me wonder if this complex is mostly gay...???

ANhyhoo.

I was told that a film is screening here at the back of the complex. Jerry mentioned it to me, but I forgot the date. Bens, did you hear about that?

I'm off on SUNDAY!!

I'll be at the Gold's Downtown to scope out what it has to offer!! I can't cruise cuz I suck at sending off the gay vibe... I'm too butch.

Ciao!

We did meet, but you seemed a bit distracted. I have'nt met DJBens and he lives a few yards from me. LOL (is he shy)

atxclimber was the only member I spoke with at his pride booth. I wanted to talk more, but other cute guys wanted a piece of him too.

There is this one nice guy I met at Gold's on Sat evening. His name is Al and he lives near Sheraton - a 10 minute jog from where I live. He's a professional, very attractive, and seems down to earth + he's got a SCHWEET ride! I don't quite expect him to be "the one", but I'm willing to spend the summer finding that out.

That man can flip a house like no one's bizness!! He enjoys long conversations about all kinds of stuff - INLCLUDING ACE OF BASE!!! We were actualy discussing how most gay men avoid that important verbal activity. Once we ran out of things to say, we just got more intimate. Smooth, very smooth...

I walked to the Ben White Gold's Gym from the complex this Sunday morning. It takes exactly 30 minutes. Once there, I did legs and lite arms & chest work. On the walk home, I discovered a sinful Panaderia on St Elmo. OMG!! I sure can go for a chocolate concha pastry right now.

Ok, it's beddy time for me. I got to wake up at 10am!!

Welcome to Austin. It's a great town that's changing everyday. We're all trying to hold on to that Austin vibe, though. Learn it and live it. That's all we Austinites ask, don't try to change us and just be cool.

I workout at Gold's, my favorite gym here. The eye candy is a definite plus.

Yeah, Austin really is groovy. This is my fifth time living here after living basically all over the world. It's so easy to live here and Austinites, for the most part, care more about the individual than where they live, what kind of car they drive and who they have on speed dial. Cool.

Welcome.

I've been in Austin around 4 months. With the exception of the flood of yuppies and uber-hipsters, Austins a pretty great town if you involve yourself. There's so much to do whether you have no money, little money, or a lot.

Some personal requests.

1. Don't drink and drive. Do every thing in your power to not drink and drive.

2. I know there's smelly crazy people on the bus but please take advantage of public transit.

3. If you've decided to live on the east side between Caesar Chavez and around MLK, please get involved with the community. There's nothing worst than watching rich whites, or hipsters in their ivory modern towers while they drive up your cost of living.
