I have been reading up on the symptoms of Chlamydia. I read that it takes 1 to 3 weeks for symptoms to show up when someone has it. Or that a person might not ever get symptoms and just carry it unknowingly. I am wondering if a person can be carrying it for a long time before his partner catches it?

So, this is what happened to me. My partner and I are in a semi-open relationship. Neither of us have been with anyone in the past three months (that I know of). A couple weeks ago, I experienced the symptoms of Chlamydia and got tested to verify that I indeed did have it. He had no symptoms at all. We both took the necessary meds to clear it up.

I am assuming I got it from him because the last time I hooked up with another guy was in January. Could I have carried the infection for that long without symptoms? Not sure when his last time to hook up was, but I am pretty sure it was before the middle of March.

Anybody have any ideas or answers how this can happen?

Here's a question: did you have unprotected anal intercourse with your hookup? Or with your partner?

So, if you answered yes, it could have come from you, and it could have been asymptomatic all of this time.

Planned Parenthood mentions that oral sex MAY transmit chlamydia to your eye (penis to mouth, mouth to hand, hand to eye), but suggests that it's not spread by casual contact.

Others writing after me will no doubt lecture you about unprotected anal sex with multiple partners in an open relationship.

Love your partner enough to wear a condom with him and everyone you fool around with.

I think you should be asking these questions of your doctor.

Thanks for the info. I did talk to my doctor, but these questions came up after our conversations.
For the record, we don't do any anal with hookups. . . Not that it protects from all STI's but its an understanding we have.

Years ago I contracted gonorrhea from the guy I was seeing because he had contracted it orally. He had thought was infected and went to see his doctor, who was only familiar with treating "straight" patients, so he didn't take a culture from my partner's mouth/throat.

I went in to get treated, but my doctor -- also with a predominantly straight, and I think older, clientelle -- couldn't remember how to treat gonorrhea, and had to call a pharmacist.

As a result, both my partner and I switched to doctor with gay practices.

Maybe the same thing is going on with your partner, maybe he wasn't tested from appropriate areas.

If I were counseling you, I'd say someone in your relationship isn't telling the truth. Chlamydia CAN be spread thru oral, but it's very rare.

When I contracted it I had symptoms within 3days and to be blunt, was from letting a trick blow me. I didnt reciprocate and Im glad I didnt go further and that was all I caught. I went to my doctor got treated and started using condoms for everything sexual, before I wouldnt use them for oral.

That is my real point. . . I want to know if you can go a long time without symptoms and then get them? I too was questioning the truthfulness of the partners in my relationship( more his than mine!) I will talk to him more extensively tonight. . . But I am fairly certain neither of us have hooked up since March 15. And we discussed the probability of carrying it undetected and the symptoms "flairing up" from our contact with each other. . .
thanks
