Ok guys, I got a bday coming up in a few days and it's the one day of the year that I feel like I dread. Whether I spend it alone or with others (I've done both) it's still a day that I look forward to the end of. Dont get me wrong I love the cards and messages. Anyone else feel this way around their birthdays?

Well first of all, there is no reason to dread it.. Why do you?

My bf makes comments like, "its just another day to me" or "I quit celebrating it years ago"... I disagree, I think it should be a special day for you... at least to do something special that is unique or special to you. Take a few minutes (at least) and do something for you on your day. You deserve it.

I always try and do something I'd never do otherwise, but do it for "me" on my birthday. Being a Leo, and a summer birthday (sorry Solidguy, thats as close as you get), there are some good options.

Happy Birthday, Max.. I hope you have a good one and one you remember!

Yeah, my birthday has always been about me. Whether I go out with friends, buy myself a little somethin somethin, or whatever, I always kinda plan something special just for myself. This year, I have a gift card that I won at a silent auction, and it's for one of the nicest restaurants in Columbus (which is also one of my favorites), so if I don't find the opportunity to use it earlier, I'm going to treat myself to a fancy birthday dinner. The question is, who to take? Hell, even if I use my gift card before my birthday, I still might treat myself to dinner there. Or even better, a spa day and dinner there. Mmmm, sounds awesome. Hah, now I'm inappropriately excited.

I never make much noise about mine. I prefer to spend it in quiet contemplation and then maybe treat myself to some new books at Borders or Barnes & Noble.

Just take it as a day to celebrate all that you have and all that you've accomplished. Another way to cheer yourself up is to make a gratitude list - you'll be amazed how much you have to put oh it. Don't know where to start? The basics - two arms, two legs - and the fact that you're not in a paralysis situation. If I ever had a blue hour or anything like that, I just considered Christopher Reed.

Happy birthday - (to any guy here having one this week). Just do something fun with friends - really just be happy and greatful!

I dont really celebrate my birthday...espicially this last one (30th). It was a regular day. Work and then went to the gym. My co-workers decorated my desk....I took it down. I told them not to do anything for me.

Well mine is right after Christmas so I am usually around family who want to celebrate. I don't care one way or the other anymore. I do like it when my partner takes me out for a nice dinner though. I like eating good food!

I celebrate my birthday (and often the birthdays of my friends) as the priority holiday in any year.

After all, you've made it one more year. You're still here, you're healthy (you hope,) and you have the exciting possibilities of the future ahead of you.

I almost always make myself an extravagant cake - even if someone buys me one at the Bonbonerie. I take the day off from work, sleep in, have sex if I can - even in bachelor times such as these - maybe go shopping, go out to dinner with friends after fixing myself a favorite lunch. I usually go for a run AND do some yoga.

I start the day with Madonna's Holiday.

I could go on. I love birthdays. I'd skip Christmas for a birthday (I know I know it's a birthday, but whatever.)

Mine's actually a week from today. 30whore as Zim says. LOL Woot!

I don't make a big fuss anymore, but I'm glad when people remember it. For my 50th, I threw myself a party because I had different groups of friends who didn't know each other.

I agree with guys who said to be glad for it. You are still here, so be grateful.

It's a day to celebrate. Might as well, too, since it only comes around once a year.

I pretend I hate it, and accept the gifts grumpily. I make fun of the cake. And then I smile when I'm finally alone in my room.

It's a day to celebrate and I usually do something special. For my birthday (31 May, in a couple of weeks time, hint, hint) I am taking my friends on a magical mystery tour (no, not pubs and clubs). They're going to be surprised. I can't say what it is because one of them is a realjock.

So, celebrate it with your friends (and family if you can bear them) and Happy Birthday!

You know, for the longest time I hated my birthday... mostly because it was on Valentine's Day and anytime my family took me out to celebrate, the stupid ass waiter/waitress would ask me why I was out with my folks instead of my sweetheart. It was only after I told them that it was my birthday that I would hear, "Oh! Well, that's okay then."

Somewhere along the line, I realized that I really love my birthday, and I f--kin' hate Valentine's Day. When I was somehow able to separate the two, February 14th became a lot more enjoyable to me.

I turned 35 this past Sunday. For the week leading up to it I was miserable, eating untold amounts of food. Then I woke up Sunday morning and said to myself "What the fuck are you doing?". I'm back on course now.

Happy Birthday! Mine's coming up (May 27th)! I don't make a big deal about it but I do celebrate it with those that I'm close. Mine's usually on or during the Memorial Day weekend, so usually a lot of people are out of town, but this year I'm just planning on celebrating it when I go up to Orlando the next week for Gay Days!

Don't ever dread it -- celebrate it! One thing we all have in common is that we all get older -- can't do a damn thing about it, so may as well embrace it. Admittedly, I was sort of dreading my 50th that was a few weeks ago, but it ended up being probably the best birthday I've ever had -- my friends are amazing! -- and when I think how many friends over the years were not lucky enough to get to 50, it made me all the more thankful.

I celebrate the whole month of my birthday. Why be glum when Good Lord put me here so that everyone has something to rejoice about (whether they know it or not).

It was my 24th birthday yesterday. It was low-key, like my other birthdays. Mom took me out to eat, we got back, I opened the present. I'm going out to eat with my Grandma tomorrow...

I have the tendency NOT to think of anything to ask for for my birthday, so I end up getting cash or gift cards. I feel guilt/greedy for wanting things from people. "Buy me this, buy me that." Ugh.

Celebrate! I consider each birthday as a start of a new year. I make my goals and resolutions and look back at the past year I survived. Its my own personal new years!

Okay this is going to seem a little wierd.

I've never been big on celebrating. My Birthday is in January and since I was 12 I've never felt it was fair to my parents being so close to Christmas. We never had alot of money.

But...

On my 19th birthday, I met my first love, who, six months later turned out to be a prick and one that is talked about in at least 2 new england cities. However, he has always claimed that the success I've had in life since we date was all due to his influence. The best think I learned from him was to harden my heart, and not to wear it on my sleeve.

This coming January I'll be 29, ten years from the day we met. I have this stupid little fantasy/goal in my head that I'm going to invite him out (I havent physically seen him in eight years) to the local bar after I fly up there to Worcester. There I'll be, buff and happy. And he'll make a move on me. And I'll turn him down.

Petty. Stupid. But sometimes its what I think about to get my that extra mile on a run or through those last few reps.

I'm not one to celebrate forced holidays, but have always enjoyed celebrating life.

Now, I'm indifferent since most of my friends have moved away or are dead.
The invite list is virtually non existent.

I still buy myself a cake and congratulate myself.
