THIS LETTER OF CONYERS IS OF MAJOR IMPORTANCE !!!! I found this article today ---Illegal, unilateral, preemptive military action against Iran: Chairman of House Judicial Committee speaks out. Rep. John conyers, has written a letter to bush telling him not to go to war with Iran without approval by the Congress/Senate, He quotes many sections of the constitution, and reiterates bush infractions against it and the powers of the Congress?Senate. The conyers letter can be read at--http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=8963

The thought of that is really scary (war with IRAN that is). I just think it would break this country in so many ways. We just could not bear that burden now. In fact I am having a hard time thinking that even Bush would be that stupid.

I think it's hilarious that you Democrats are so hell bent on providing terrorists with nuclear weapons. Where do you think they will use them? I doubt red states will feel the brunt of the attacks but major urban areas of blue states are great targets.

I've never seen a broadway show and I love them. I suppose I had better go to New York and see a few while New York is still there.

You can be sure that John Conyers Jr. didn't come up with that idea. I've never seen such an ignorant man in government. He's probably speaking for Maxine Waters. I've never seen such a bitter human than Maxine. Talk about not "making ugly faces or it will freeze like that", Maxine is living proof, her scowl is forever etched on that mug of hers.

Maxine's district is LA, that would make a lucrative target for terrorists. John Conyers Jr.s district is Detroit, that would be a waste of a bomb since Detroit is a thrid world country in itself.

Damn you Democrats are dumb.

They are not going to impeach Bush...not now, not tomorrow, not during the summer, not ever -- deal with it.

As for us going to war with Iran...this also isn't going to happen, not anytime soon anyway, and certainly not unless Congress, NOT the President alone, decides to do so based on perhaps some stunt Iran may pull in the future. One thing is for certain, if Iran arms themselves with a nuclear weapon and decides to wipe Israel off the map, you had better hope we have a President that knows what actions we need to take or else we're all going up in smoke.

I remember an episode of that sitcom "Democracy Now", it's kind of a parady of the news only not as good as the Daily Show, it's on FSTV. They had John Conyers Jr. on and were discussing the IMF loans to African countries and how these African countries were on the verge of defaulting on the loans. Conyers was ranting and raving about secret American military bases in Africa. Amy Goodman, the moderator was looking for a scoop, you could see the look of anticipation on her face, she was ready. Then she asked the obvious question of Conyers; "where are these bases ?" Conyers stopped, stuttered a little and then said "Well ... I, I don't know". The look on Amy's face was priceless. She was so disappointed but did the old chin up routine.

I missed the rest of the show I was laughing so hard.

Once again, name calling from the elementary school playground.

John, just a suggestion: this technique doesn't usually lead to constructive conversation, assuming you actually want to have a constructive conversation on these topics.

As for me, while I respect you as a person, have never called you dumb, have never said you hated your country (and would never say those things to anyone), there is simply no reason for me to engage with you anymore.

Wow, I can just see it now. Iran opposes all foreign pressure, develops a nuclear weapon. Keeps this all secret from lots of prying eyes. Then manages to pull off a nuclear test, without any siezmic activity or other observation by the world community. The test is successful, a bomb is created. It's put on a truck, rolled into Isreal - the holy land - where it is detonated destroying the 'hated infidels'. Unfortunately it also makes the area uninhabitable for human life because of the radiation.

All the islamic fundamentalist who think of that land as holy as well, are soooo happy that there aren't infidels there, that they don't mind that they can't use the land now either.

All the non-Iran muslim states turn a blind eye to the act of decimation of the holy land and put their hands in their laps waiting for Christendom to strike back at Iran.

Iran wakes up after cheering the decimation of Isreal and realizes - oops - we didn't make enough bombs to keep the whole of civilization at bay.
-------

Really John, Iran can be counted on to do a couple of things - act in it's own self interest, and protect areas that are considered holy. - They may do gun fights and ground assult, but not nuclear destruction.

Even if they blew up a major city in Europe or US, there might be fewer lives lost then what has been lost in Iraq as a result of the war - and the US would still be plenty strong enough and well backed by allies in retribution. There would be very little left of Iran if it used nuclear weapons to strike as a terrorist.

See the thing that gives terrorists protection, is that they have no state. Nothing would limit and control terrorists more than to give them a piece of land and allow them to think they have the responsibility to defend it.

Iran is a state and therefore is not well served by terrorist activities on a large scale - but may find them useful as attrition tactics.

Honestly if we really wanted to, we could arrange to have a nuke 'lost' in Iraq - smuggled by Sunni's into Iran and blow up their capital city and make it look like a terrorist act by "Al Qaeda in Iraq". In the ensuing chaos, the United Nations moves into Iran to 'bring order'. Viola - the US is in charge - using a little terrorism of our own.

God help us. (I bet that very plan is on a scratch pad in Cheney's office)

The question here is about reasonable balance. We must be prepared and stay on top of intelligence.
Because of 9/11 differing and changing tactics must be employed. But individual freedoms are also extremely important, its what this country is about. The result should be changes, enough to keep us safe and protect our freedoms.

What we've seen with Bush isn't balance, its overkill.
There are things this President has done (himself...nobody else) that has been detrimental, both to the public domestically and our standing in the world.

You remind me of this guy around your age I used to argue with on another site.

His views were the right ones and anyone who dare saw other was dumb naive and the like.

Seems your the one who's all these if you won't listen to reason.

Ask yourself a few things before blindly following someone (sounds like what some people did when they joined up with Al-Qaeda and the like)

1. Why are they doing this, meaning both parties involved.

2. Is what both parties doing the only solution and if not can you voice a concern that they would consider? If not then you needn't bother with them, cause no sane person would willingly sign up with people who would kill innocent people without....any...reason....hmmm?

3. I'd say what the third is but I'm guessing I should stop cause you've...nevermind.

Sorry I brought it up. Please continue to call names and sling shit at people for no real reason, it's quite....amusing...

Why stop there? Any country can go rogue, how many "states" should we invade? Do we occupy them forever, or keep hitting their infrastructure to keep them in the dark ages?

Perhaps we should begin to think bigger, why stop at strategic military strikes? How about taking over as many of these counties as we can before they potentially attack us. If the world objects, threaten the rest of the world with nuclear annihilation if they oppose our domination!

Get a clue!

OK, Here's how the terrorists can win.

Hizbollah smuggle three small nuclear weapons into the United States. These three nukes are only as powerful as the Hiroshima bomb because by today's standards of technology are easy to make. These three nukes are placed in three cities, say, Atlanta, Cleveland and Seattle. (This is hypothetical)

Out of the blue, one day while we don't expect it, one goes off in Cleveland. It's horrible, the devastation is massive. The news media are all over it, just like the terrorist want. A day later Hezbollah sends a tape to CBS stating that they have one of two equal sized nuclear devices in every major city in the US.
If we surrender to the Iranian revolutionary guard and end our constitutional democracy and convert to shia islam we will be spared.

Of course we don't believe them and vow to fight for our freedom and our way of life. We don't retaliate for fear of all the rest of the nukes being set off in all our cities. Then Atlanta explodes. The ultimatum is again given with a time limit. There is widespread panic. Americans are now turning against one another to turn America over to Iran or to stay free. The time limit is passed and Seattle goes up. The last ultimatum is given.

Americans fall all over one another to surrender to Hizbullah. Hizbullah is out of ammo but we don't know that. We think there are nukes in every city in the US. So we agree to surrender and adopt sharia and scrap the constitution.

The Iranian revolutionary guard fly over in passenger jets and take up positions in our government, police and military and make us all good shia muslims. Those of us who're openly gay, well, we get the gallows.

It would be ludicrous for Iran to completely destroy America because we have so many resources. They would be better off securing these resources for themselves.

I doubt 9/11 would have happened it someone other then bush had been in office but then that is just speculation as is your train of thought that bush's policies actual protect you.

Bush only got to declare war on Iraq because of a loophole in which daddy bush never closed off the Persian Gulf War. Had that been closed then jr would have had to go to congress. Jr just wanted to finish what daddy started and couldn't finish. I also don't believe Jr is intelligent enough to have orchestrated all this and there has to be someone pulling strings behind the curtains.

Plain and simple it would never happen and wont work. First security is to tight to bring any dirty bombs in. They would have to have them in the country to begin with. Secondly a better plan that fits into their line of thinking is to kill our economy. All it will take is a few massive EMP attacks couple with shooting down some satellites and look dead economy because we rely to much on electronics.

Realifedad- thanks for bring this to my attention.

I have NORMAL friends in IRAN. The majority of citizens are hard working, well educated people who are just trying to meet their basic hunan needs each day.

The citizens are so oppressed in IRAN and have been asking for help from the WORLD - (hint hint - U.N.) for generations - they are tired of violence and war.

The citizens have no freedom to visit other countries as their 'government' fears they will not return to Iran after a vacation. This policy is strongly imposed on young Iranians(to deny visas) in fear that they will leave forever to start a life of freedom somewhere else in the world.

Not to mention that being GAY is punishable by death!

So hats off to the Iranian people(especially our gay brothers and sisters) who somehow - continue to be optimistic about a HELP arriving soon, from other world leaders!

Tony, Mahmoud Ahmadinijad is getting pretty tight with Hugo Chavez. Our southern border is pourous. Our security isn't so tight, even now after 9/11. If illegal aliens can penetrate it, so can terrorists. Speaking of 9/11, who'd a thought that would happen?

The Russians and Chinese have the technology to generate a massive Electro Magnetic Pulse and shoot down sattelites. I don't think Iran does right now, unless they cause one with a nuclear detonation.

Penguin, I know Iran has normal decent people, but so did Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan.

John43620 saidTony, Mahmoud Ahmadinijad is getting pretty tight with Hugo Chavez.

While you're at it, can you determine the current terrorist threat level from Gargomel and his diabolical cat Azriel?

Well your paranoid rantings have me feeling kind of helpless, scared and smurfy sometimes. I know you think that's a good thing but it nearly ruined our country and plays right into Gargom...erm...bin Laden's hands.
