A friend of mine or a guy I dated have Michigan License and currently living in Phoenix Arizona. We both decided to go to a nice restaurant... My friend want to order a nice cold beer and bartender ask for license. A bartender told my friend we don't take outer state License. You guys know why? I tried to ask bartender why, but he was too busy working with someone else.

Probably because they don't know what to look for in terms of fakes. Bartender wouldn't be familiar with a Michigan license and might miss obvious flaws.

That's interesting... I am a restaurant manager and have been a bartender too. AZ Law states that we CAN accept an out of state license (as long as it isn't expired), but NOT an out of state ID card. Military ID and passports can also be accepted. However, a restaurant's own policy CAN be more strict, just not more lenient.

there's a booklet that some bars keep of what the different licenses look like and what to look for. he might've just been too lazy to check or didn't have it available. even so, the only time anything like that happened to me was in Wichita, KS. The big scary lesbian was confused by my apparently hi-tech Massachusetts license with a data matrix instead of a standard bar code. She almost didn't let me in just because she could not scan my drivers license to verify it's really me.
