I've added tanning to my gym membership for 1 month to have a little base tan before summer starts.

I am concerned that wearing the goggles will give me weird tan lines on my face. Is closing my eyes good enough?

And, yes, I know all the risks for my skin already.

All I do is close my eyes.

The risks to the skin are great minimized if you just take it easy, go for short periods until the skin has a chance to rev up it melatonin manufacturing.

I started at 2 minutes...which blew the front desk's mind...but hey it's my skin...to hell with them

I've only gone once so far. I started at 5 minutes. It looked bright with my eyes closed but didn't seem to hurt them.

Wear your goggles. The rays do cause some pretty harsh damage to your eyes, and you really don't get that bad of a tan line if you're outside during the day.

There's a company (california tan I think) that makes stickers that go on your eye lids that provide all the functions of the goggles, but don't cover as much skin. They're a buck a pop, but much better then frying your eyes.

Be sure to wear the goggles or some type of protective device. The skin on your eyelids is too thin to protect your eyes from the UV rays.

I wear my goggles for half the time I'm in the bed. So far, no lines around my eyes. And much safer than not using them at all.

I also signed up for a month of tanning just yesterday. I like to have a base tan when the pools open on Memorial day. Maybe I'm strange, but I actually cover my entire face with a towel to hold off the wrinkles. Your face is exposed to rays constantly; even during the winter, so I don't get any weird tan lines.

Oh jesus nonexistence christ

Ok for tanning: Wear goggles or winkies that don't have a string or strap. The winkies you can dispose of after use. Saves you from tan string lines.

Also if possible always use a standing tan both. Laying down leads to pressure points on the ass and shoulder blades giving you white marks on your back and a white butterfly on your ass (which some people find hot)

Rule of thumb is avoid pressure points. Any place where the skin is under pressure from contact with a solid object blocks blood flow and prevents any color gain.
