Great idea for a thread!

In order of consumption:
1 pasta
2 broccoli
3 apples
4 oranges
5 bananas
6 carrots
7 sweet peppers
8 tomatoes
9 chicken
10 milk

ya srsly. Can you say, "Health FREAK?"
I guess this isn't too uncommon on realjock.
God I love realjock.

Broccoli isn't actually all that great for me, because I have a family history of kidney stones.
Must... cut.. back.. on.. broccoli.. but it's so delicious.

I'm hiding the fact that # 11 is bacon and # 12 is butter drenched bacon.

Hmm, my list is slightly different, but I'm trying to add some weight, not remove it:

Potato bread
pasta (recently, pasta plus from Barilla)
mozerella cheese
eggs
wanilla soy milk
chicken leg quarters
tuna canned in water
bananas
cherries (if in season. Otherwise, seedless red grapes)
apple juice

Ha we are onto Tom Cruise. I am from NJ and knew some of his friends. In High school Tom lived next door to a family that had a very very goodlooking daughter and son, both close in age. Tom was so infatuated with the guy and paid the sister little or no attention. I will stop the story there. You do the math.

Go fishing in the chicago river, stelin' nuts from squirrels and maybe climbing on rooftops to collect the occasional Pidgeon egg. Speaking of Pidgeon, Squab. Can't beat it!

Chucky -

Grits are good, but the energy density of Cream of Rice is a little higher, if you're looking for that.

140 kCal per 1/4 cup dry measure. all complex carb.

The package says it reconstitutes to a cup, but at that ratio it's glue - we end up making about 1 1/2 cups with that much.

mascjockatl, read up on insulin regulation. It'll make more sense to you then.

As well, the saying goes, "You have to fuel the furnace." I bring my calories UP pre-contest, but, I clean them up, and I keep my insulin / blood sugar lower for pre-contest.

It's NOT about calorie deprivation, but, rather, metabolism activation.

I bring my protein way up. I bring my fats up (poly and mono), well, maybe not really bring them up, but, keep them in, and without sugar in my diet......'cept post workout....those carbs do a glycogen load.

I do interval stairs (no endless hours of cardio) to blast my metabolism up 6 pacs of grits a day (22 grams of carb each just go keeping my brain working). Without sugar, calories drop of fast. Ever try eating 4500 calories a day with no sugar and 60 grams of fat? It's hard. In fact, it takes about 12 meals.

This is an old topic, but I can identify because I'm such a creature of habit buying my groceries. I not only buy the same list each week, but from the same SuperTarget at approximately the same time every Sunday afternoon.

I absolute love grocery shopping; if I'm not careful, I'll spend an hour in there.

Apples
Bagged lettuce
Baby carrots
tomatoes
onion
Gal. Skim Milk
2 doz. eggs
Nuts
Kashi Go Lean Cereal

Chicken Breast

I always start my list out with this stuff, then add whatever else I need for that shopping trip:

Silk Soy Milk (vanilla for cereal, chocolate for drinking)
Whole oats
Bananas (other fruits too, but always bananas)
Granola
Eggs (cage-free when I can find them)
Low-fat yogurt
Low-fat cottage cheese
assorted veggies (preferably fresh as opposed to frozen, never canned)
assorted organic soups
assorted lean, fresh meats (chicken, turkey, lean ground beef, etc)

I also regularly buy Isopure Low-carb in Dutch chocolate... but I get this from Amazon for a better price than any of the stores around here.

I go between periods where I faithfully do a full order and when I am at the store every two to three days. Regardless, it's always the same items that I am after.

1. Chicken breasts

2. Plain, non-fat yogurt

3. skim milk

4. fruit: bananas, golden del. apples, dried medley

5. Bear Naked Granola (blueberry and walnut variety)

6. sugar-free, fat-free pudding mix

7. Frozen veg. medley

8. mutli grain bread

9. steel cut oats

10. Basmati long grain, brown rice

Obviously, there are other items, but these are the staples for the house.

Of course! I'm a great cook, and I like my food far better than anything available in town. I also like to know exactly what I'm eating and avoid certain unacceptable ingredients that are commonly found in modern diets.

Yum, reading these lists is making me want to go raid my kitchen.

Staples in my diet are:

Broccoli - this stuff is good steamed or stir fried with Pam fat free spray and makes me so incredibly regular..it's better than prunes for me.

Asparagus - Acts as a mild diuretic to help rid myself of excess water retention

Watermelon - The fruit and the seeds are also good to keep the kidneys functioning.

Apples - I mix these along with other fruits for healthy smoothies along with protein powder. Apples with the skin left on are very high in pectin, antioxidants and other healthy nutrients.

Rice milk - Better than soy and better tasting than cow's milk. Excessive soy intake can hamper with a man's hormone profile and mess with estrogen levels. I have to watch out for that.

Activia yogurt - Beneficial cultures to aid digestion and other cultures are good for maintaining a healthy gut.

MCT/Fish/Vegetable Oils - I group these as one. I take coconut oil, I buy cashew butter and cook some foods with olive oil for my fat intake. I get roughly 4TBSP total a day of fat from these sources everyday.

Protein powder - whey and or egg protein powder. I sometimes mix them together for a slower release of protein in my body or sometimes I have only the egg protein when I want to have a quickly absorbed protein.

Eggs - I eat roughly 8 egg whites a day and about 2 or 3 egg yolks a day mixed in. The yolks are good in moderation and offer substantial nutrition.

Meats - I buy chicken either canned for easy preparation but rinse it off to get most of the sodium out or I sometimes buy an entire chicken for roasting, broiling or boiling and cut away the fat and skin myself. I don't eat red meat but do eat chicken and fish.
I don't buy processed chicken or turkey as my registered nutritionist informed me that lunch meats have been linked with certain cancers so I only eat non processed meats.

Hey, may I suggest you guys go back and edit your post and briefly explain why you choose the certain foods that you eat? Sort of the way I did with mine. I'm curious to know. Aside from eating junk food of course, that's just for pleasure and is obvious.

twinkies, ho-hos, chips, popcorn, oreos, poptarts, teddy-grams... lol jk

i tend to eat out a lot when i'm at school and when i'm here at home as i am currently for the summer i have a magic pantry that restocks itself (ie, the pantry fairy. ie, mom lol)... but when i do grocery shop for myself, it involves:

bananas (the biggest ones i can find lol),

baby carrots,

oatmeal,

deodorant (not for eating),

a copy of Details (also not for eating),

sushi for lunch that day as a treat to myself,

organic eggs,

skim milk,

orange juice- the good, pulpy stuff,

v-8 juice,

as well as various other odds and ends like nonfat yogurt, organic peanut butter, wheat bread, whitening gum... but those tend to be the constants.

1. Yogurt - for my weak stomach - FYI - don't eat fast food burgers that are raw in the middle, you might catch something nasty that has long term health effects. I wish Fast Food Nation had come out 15 years ago.

2. Cheerios - to hopefully lower my cholesterol

I'm glad to see so many people listed ground turkey. I'm surprised how much flack I take from my friends for eating it. Its a great replacement for red meat.

I'm just getting the hang of this whole eating thing.... Living in a dorm room makes it very hard to eat well, because I have a quarter of the refrigerator space and an eighth of the shelf room.

But instead of bingeing on beer and ramen, I'm going for these when I head out to the store:

Boneless skinless chicken breasts
Lean ground turkey
Black Beans
Mixed Nuts
Frozen fruits, specifically frozen peaches and raspberries
Wheat Thins
Baby Carrots
Apples
Yogurt, but only if it doesn't have any corn syrup or equivalents in it. I've been eating a lot of SoyBaby yogurt...its made for babies, but it's the only yogurt I can find without the evils of corn syrup.
Cheddar Cheese

Anyone have any suggestions for good, quick, and healthy dorm recipes?
