So, I am lying here in bed, just woke up, totally unmotivated, my dog lyin on me and whimperin because he knows we will soon be headed to the coffee shop together.

It got me wondering what people do first thing each day when they wake up. Sadly, my computer is usually in arm's reach, so I fire it up and come to a site like this to procrastinate.

I set my coffee maker so that a pot is ready to go when I wake up. There's nothing better than waking up to the smell of fresh-brewed coffee.

So it's coffee and the computer.

Morning: drink coffee, sit at computer
Afternoon: drink coffee, sit at computer
Evening: drink coffee, sit at computer
Right before going to bed: sit at computer, can't wait to get up in the morning to have coffee

It's not the effects of coffee that keeps me awake at night. It's trying to decide which brand to brew in the morning that keeps me up.

You can't take these life decisions lightly, you know.

Well - nobody in my bed with me right now - nothing to stay in bed for, so -
I grab shorts and shoes and take the dogs for a run,
Come back - drink o.j. and eat oatmeal - steel cut oats sometimes,
Check out RJ and CEO Express.com - while eating,
Shower and get going!
It's almost always sunny in Arizona so that makes it good to get up & get rolling.

You losers need to get a life yo. Totally kidding.

Me? I roll out of bed, stumble blindly into the shower, and emerge fifteen minutes so later somewhat awake. Then I get dressed, downing my first cup of coffee then. Like Shawn, my pretty shiny coffeemaker has the stuff all ready for me when I wake up.

Then I jump in the car and use the forty minute commute to wake up and drink another few cups of coffee. By the time I get to the office, I'm awake, caffeinated, and ready to spend a rigorous day on RealJock...er...working.

And Shawn - aren't those mornings when you pour a big cup of hot coffee-flavored water because you had a Newfie moment and forgot to prep the machine the night before the worst???

Let's see, I usually JUMP out of bed because I slept through my alarm again, stand there for a second because I got up too fast, grab underwear and head to the shower to scub all the product out of my hair (so I can put more in), get dressed, if I'm lucky grab a to-go cup of coffee, and speed the whole way to school/work.

My morning routine starts at 7:00am;
1-throw on fresh shorts,
2-make coffee, brush teeth,
3-shower,
4-pour coffee,
5-get dressed,
6-drink coffee and maybe read,
7-15 min of yoga,
8-go to work at 8:00.

got up late this morning, so I missed my yoga.

Inner,

During the week, I hit the snooze bar once before getting up. On the weekend it's probably at least twice. But, since you have a dog you understand that I do need to attend to her needs. So we go outside for a short walk. Then I make our breakfasts and my coffee. I read (more like skim) the paper and watch a bit of the Today Show M-F, then it's time to hop in the shower, get ready, take Ripley for a longer walk, give her a treat, then off to work.

During the weekends I'm far more lazy. I probably watch a bit more TV, and like you I turn on my computer and start surfing the net. I try to get out the door by late morning to run errands like doing my recycling, going to the supermarket and then the gym.

I wake up by six.
Get out of bed and to the kitchen to get cold drinking water.
Log on to check Salon.com and huffingtonpost.com to make sure the world didn't end overnight.
then I go to get an iced soy latte at the coffee shop in my building or starbucks a couple blocks away, then walk about 7 blocks to the gym.
I pick up fresh orange juice and nuts at Au Bon Pain after my work out.
Then I am at my desk by 930.

repeat one million times and now I realize where my life went...

Doesn't that deplete your energy first thing?

Another crucial part of my morning routine is to watch TiVo'd episode of "Judge Judy" while I am eating my breakfast of 8 egg whites, 2 whole eggs, 1 cup of OJ, slice of whole wheat toast with a tablespoon of peanut butter. Nothing better than starting your day with a dose of Judge Judy...

Sadly, the four days a week I get up that early ruin me for sleeping in the other three...most weekends I'm still awake by 7 or so. That's when I can be found puttering around in my underwear and slippers, a cup of coffee in hand, browsing the news, checking email (now that I have wireless at home - woohoo!), catching up on iTunes-ded TV shows, and/or playing with the animals.

Sure can relate there. I'm the same on the w/e, except don't play with the damn cats. Unless kicking them out the door counts as play (don't call PETA, kicking is only in the sense of booting them, I mean holding the door for them while they decide to walk out our not!)

Like Timberoo, after that first pee..it's coffee and the paper, computer and RJ on the weekends.

Hmmm - usually this is how things go:

5:45 Mumble goodbye to husband and go back to sleep

6:30 Listen to NPR for 30 minutes and realize that whether I get up or not, the place is going to hell.

7:00 Wander into kitchen, read note left behind by husband detailing the 'chores' I have for the day and prepare breakfast: fruit, cereal, oj and coffee.

7:30 Curl up on the sofa with the cat and flip channels while eating breakfast.

8:30 Realize I'd better either shower or turn on the computer to start the day.

9:00 Having opted to start the computer first instead, skimming Facebook, RJ, Email, etc, head for shower.

9:20 Start another glorious day, serving my client, the U.S. Government and giving the taxpayer his money's worth!

6:30: finally up, answer nature's calling, do the morning routine (shower, brush my teeth, the works)

7:00: explore the kitchen for breakfast ideas

7:30: I should be all good to go ...

Not sure how you make it through the day ShawnTO. You'd better slip a nap in there somewhere, oh wait, no, you're so wired you'd never be able to nap. OK, have another cup of cofee and maybe some chocolate to calm you down .

Coffee doesn't make me wired. I think the addiction and endorphin release has taken over because coffee relaxes me. After a few cups in the afternoon I'm ready for a nap.

And I wasn't joking when I said at bedtime I can't wait to wake up the next morning so I can have more coffee.

Monday - Friday:

4:40am alarm goes off, get out of bed, throw my gym clothes on, eat some cottage cheese and head to the gym for cardio.

6am I'm making my eggs (3/4c egg white with 1/4c egg substitute)

7am at work, making my oatmeal and eating that along with some fruit/berries

And the rest of the day goes on from there really.

Weekends suck, because of the early schedule during the week, it's hard to sleep in. Weekends are more of a free for all though =)

Newer homes should be using PEX piping. In this case, no problems!

I fill a pitcher with cold water and let it set out at room temp before drinking it. allowing any chemicals or impurities to evaporate or settle.

I have to have a routine in the morning or I would never get going!

5:45 - the alarm goes off, listen to the news for 15 mins. Hubby demanding that he wants coffee (he's still in bed).
6:30 - I finally get-up, pee and go downstairs to let the dogs out. Turn-on the TV for the local news, make coffee, remember to let the dogs back-in and feed them. By now I'm starting to wake-up.
6:45 - get the newspaper from the front porch (check to see that I'm not still in my underwear as the neighbor ladies walk by doing their daily walk).
7:00 - make breakfast and read the paper. Good Morning America is on Yeaahhh!
7:20 - finally get in the shower after the hubby is done.
8:00 - I'm in the office.

Mondays & Wednesday:
6:05 - TV turns on to the morning local news. I usually wake up a few minutes after and just lay there with eyes closed listening and paying most attention to the weather forecast.
6:30 - Get off to shower.
6:45 - Prepare nice hearty breakfast that includes 2 eggs plus an extra egg white, a peanut butter + jelly sandwich, a banana or orange, and some Lactaid milk.
6:55 - Back to my room and turn on computer, the TV moves on to Today on NBC. I eat my breakfast, watch some Today, and check email, realjock, Google news.
7:30 - Out the door to go to my university campus.

Tuesdays & Thursdays:
(Same as Mondays & Wednesdays except times are shifted an hour later)

Fridays:
(Same as Mondays & Wednesdays except times are shifted two hours later)

Saturdays & Sundays:
10:00 - later: Wake up, and then it varies between preparing breakfast (which is usually just cereal), turning on the TV manually, going on the computer, so forth.

I translate the collected works of Proust into Urdu.

Then I take the doggies for a run.

Then I formulate a plan to end world hunger.

Then shower.

Cure all known diseases.

Then it's time for work.

Usually I would oversleep because my alarm would never work properly. The workload was too much. I ran on 3 hrs sleep per night. Jump out of bed in a heightened state of panic when I saw that class would start in 20 mins or less, then rush to the bathroom then rush out of the dorm and sprint cross campus. My first bite of the day was never accomplished until 2 pm in the afternoon because eating wasn't important to me. I did that for 3 years.

Now, I roll out of bed at noon and turn on the computer immediately afterwards.

Jockbod48 saidWell - nobody in my bed with me right now - nothing to stay in bed for, so -
I grab shorts and shoes and take the dogs for a run,
Come back - drink o.j. and eat oatmeal - steel cut oats sometimes,
Check out RJ and CEO Express.com - while eating,
Shower and get going!
It's almost always sunny in Arizona so that makes it good to get up & get rolling.

O.K., O.K. I've had six E-mails today from some of you wanting to know whether or not I incorporate any bed pounding before I get up and get rolling. O.K guys - for those who want to know: I admit it - either bed pounding or shower beating!

'Course not. Hot Water from the tap is nasty. Filtered cold water, nuked in microwave for 45 sec.

Careful with that nuked water. A friend of mine did an experiment: He got two pots with soil and seeded them. He then watered one with regular filtered water and the other with nuked water. The plant given the nuked water did not grow while the other flourished. There are, of course, lots of variables with this, but I wouldn't take any chances.

1234 I put my feet dawn on the floor, as soon as I awaken. Go have a slash, let the dogs out, and go make a coffee.

But now One works afternoons. Unless it is one of my personal training mornings. Breakfast is now my main meal. So One then goes has a big cook up, and takes my time to eat, and read and have a leisurely breakfast.

But what is an inflatable banana? Is it different than a regular banana? Is this something everyone knows about that I missed out on? Does it have to be a Dole banana or will any banana do?

You could send so many "Dole banana emblems" and they would send you a free 4 foot inflatable Dole banana for pool or whatever. I chose "whatever"....

1)Roll over to avoid the cat drool dribbling on my face, since the cat thinks that it's breakfast time, and is perched on my chest.

2)Roll over the other way to avoid the huge french dog kiss, since she leaps into my bed to cuddle at the first sign that i"m awake.

3)roll back upright from the other dog kiss.

4)get up, stumble to the bath and urinate.

5)go downstairs, dispense various critter foods

6)make coffee

7)scream

HOT SHOWER! Without a hot shower in the morning, I can't function.

The worst days are when the dorms, for some god awful reason, don't have hot water; I stand there and think, "why me, what did I do to deserve this?!?!" I then attempt a cold shower, uugghh...the horror.

My morning ritual:
6:50: Wake up on first alarm, push snooze button on remote

7:00: Wake up to second alarm, hit snooze again

7:10: Wake up to third alarm, hit snooze again

7:20: Wake up to fourth alarm, contemplate getting up, if it's a good song I listen to it and then get up

7:30: If I haven't already gotten out of bed this is my last opportunity to do so before being late for work.

7:35: Finally get out of bed, unplug my iPod from my computer and plug it into the speakers in my bathroom

7:40: Wash hands, floss and brush teeth hop into shower

7:45: Towel off, apply moisturizer, deodorant, cologne, and do my hair, shave every second day

7:55 (if I'm lucky): put on the clothes I prepped the night before

8:00: Leave the apartment and grab a smoothie at the booster juice wannabe place on the corner arrive at work around 8:15 though usually it's more like 8:25

I haven't deviated from this ritual in a year... it's so time to change things up, lol

We have two dogs that leap out of bed the minute I get up, either because they woke up before I did or the alarm goes off. So the very first order of business is let them out to do their morning mother nature call. While they're doing their business, I stumble off to take care of my own.

After I take them back upstairs and get them back into bed, I unplug my iPod. Then I go to the half bathroom downstairs where it's quiet and private and meditate for 20 minutes. After that, it's get dressed, take my morning supplements, and head out to the gym.

After rolling over a couple of times let the dog out between 5:30 and 6 -- okay, he has a small bladder, and gets cursed for it. God back to bed until abnout 7:30 -- 8 and then go for a run avec chien. After run gety ready for work, and leave around 9 in am.

Honestly I'm not a moring person, and shudder at those whose clock is set for before, well say seven or so, despite the dog. But I guess first thing is let the pooch out, followed by peeing, or preferrably back to bed depending on the time, or a run or shower depending on the mood or again time.

Check to see if I have a pulse. Remove the cat from my face. Take pills. Make a quadruple latte. Walk 20 steps to office. Check my email to see if any clients cancelled or if any editor is pissed at me. Shower. Wait for the doorbell to ring. Greet the first client. Halfway through the first client's session, I actually awaken.
